Automotive paint: What is the reason for pinholes after painting?

1、 During the process of car repainting, dense pinholes, also known as pits, appear in the paint film after painting, mainly due to:

1. The surface of the sprayed part is not thoroughly cleaned, leaving moisture and moisture on it. After spraying, it will evaporate and pass through the surface of the topcoat, forming pinholes;

2. Improper dilution ratio of paint or use of poor quality diluents, and diluents that dry too quickly can also easily cause pinholes;

3. Excessive thickness of the paint layer and insufficient drying time result in the formation of pinholes when the solvent in the paint layer escapes and reaches the surface of the paint and breaks out;

4. Improper adjustment of the paint spray gun causes the sprayed paint film to be too wet, or improper technology, such as spraying too close, causing air to penetrate the paint film, and excessive air or solvent to escape during the drying process, resulting in pinholes;

5. Forced drying of the paint layer with a hair dryer can lead to insufficient air drying, and excessive temperature in the spraying workshop can lead to rapid surface drying;

2、 Preventive measures and remedial methods:

1. Thoroughly clean the substrate and ensure dryness before painting;

2. Select the correct diluent and dilute according to the manufacturer's recommended ratio;

3. Avoid excessive thick coating and ensure solvent evaporation with a medium paint film;

4. Use the spray gun correctly and adjust the pressure to ensure the atomization effect;

5. Do not dry the wet paint surface with wind;

6. If pinholes have already appeared, polish the paint film flat and reapply.
