How to deal with "wrinkles" after car painting?

Whether it is the painting of interior car parts or exterior bodywork, it is a tedious paint spraying process. In this process, many problems will inevitably arise. Paint orange peel is a common problem.

So how to solve the problem of "wrinkles" in car paint?

"Wrinkling" is also known as poor leveling. The orange peel-like blocky effect of the paint film is mainly due to poor leveling.

Cause:

① Improper adjustment of the spray gun leads to poor paint atomization. Spraying paint in too wide a fan, or spraying the gun too far from the sprayed surface, can cause the paint to overdry before it reaches the sprayed surface. When this happens, the mist of paint particles that reach the sprayed surface will retain the shape formed by the nozzle, resulting in a rough surface texture.

② Inferior thinner or incorrect thinner ratio. Insufficient thinner or the use of fast evaporating thinner will cause the paint particles to overdry before they reach the surface being sprayed.

③When the ambient temperature of the spraying operation is too high, the paint particles are overdried in the process of reaching the spraying surface, resulting in poor leveling.

④ Improper drying. Before the paint particles on the sprayed surface are leveled, the forced drying process will increase the chance of orange peel on the paint film. When spraying multiple times, if the paint film of the previous spraying is too dry, the solvent in the paint sprayed again will be absorbed by the bottom layer, so that the paint particles sprayed again cannot be leveled.

⑤ The paint is not evenly stirred. After the paint is stored for a long time, the bottom layer will precipitate. Before spraying, the paint should be fully stirred evenly. The uneven drying of various parts will lead to orange peel.

Remedy:

① If the orange peel has been produced, after the paint film is completely dry, polish it with wax of appropriate thickness. In severe cases, use fine sandpaper to polish the surface of the orange peel to a smooth surface, then wax and polish, or re-spray.

②Adjust the distance between the spray gun and the object to be coated. Generally, the distance between the spray gun and the object to be coated is required to be 20-30cm.
